GENERAL INFORMATION

The regular duration of a four-year undergraduate program at Pamukkale University (PAU) is eight semesters.

Established in 2001, Department of Public Finance is one of the newest department in the university. The Public Finance Department are offered theoretical and practical instruction on economics, public finance and business finance and tax law.  The aim here is to prepare students for a complex and competitive world. Statistics and mathematics are also among the subjects of special emphasis.  The purpose of the public finance programme is to educate students about the principles and institutions of domestic and world economy in order to prepare them to meet the highly qualified staff requirements of various government and private institutions, banks, financial corporations and semi-public or private enterprises. The graduates of the department are sought by the Ministry of Finance. Treasury, State Planning Organisation, and various public and private banks and organisations as well as in private sector.  There are four majors offered by the department: Budgeting and Fiscal Planning, Public Sector Economics, Theory of Public Finance and Tax Law.  Within the department, there are 3 associate professor, 2 assistant professor  and 7 research assistants.

 

A Summary of Academic Rules and Regulations Concerning Undergraduate Study, Examinations and Assessment 

Academic Year: One academic semester consists of two 17-week semesters including registration and final examination periods. A summer semester is also offered for selected courses.

 

Language: The general medium of instruction is Turkish.

 

Compulsory and Elective Courses: The courses offered in the first two years are all compulsory. In the last two years of the undergraduate program, in addition to compulsory courses, students may take eight elective courses that are selected by a minimum number of 10 students.

 

PAU Credit Hour Rating: Each course is allotted a predetermined number of credit hours. These include all of the weekly theoretical course hours plus half of the weekly laboratory hours.

 

ECTS Credits: Each course is allotted a predetermined number of ECTS credits.

 

Attendance: Students must attend classes, sessions and examinations. Student's attendance is followed by the instructor of the course.

 

Examination and Assessments: In addition to at least one midterm examination, the students are required to take a final examination. The student is given a grade by the course instructor taking into account the attendance, laboratory work, quizzes, and midterm exam (50%) and a final exam (50%).

 

PAU Grades: For each course, the student is given a grade ranging from 0 to 100 during the semester. A successful student should take a grade higher than 60. Finally, these grades are converted to letter grades.
